Writing a business plan

Okay so you’re ready to get your home business started. You need to lay out a plan of action. If you do not have the money to start a business, you need to find out if you can qualify for a loan or get money from investors. In order to get a loan you will need to have a business plan to show them.

You may be wondering what is a business plan? When writing a business plan you want to think of questions that people might have about your own business. You will not find anyone that will give you a loan without having this information. You want your business plan to tell them that you have considered every aspect of the business and show them what you have come up with.

Here is a list of what should be included in your business plan

  •  What service do you offer? This is the first thing you should include in your business plan. Are you going to be offering a service or will be selling products that you will be purchasing from other companies.
  • Who will your customers be? You need to include in your business plan who you are going to be doing your service for or are offering it to. You need to let them know whether or not you will be doing this in a local area or online.
  • What makes your offer unique? Let them know what the key factors are that make your business different from other businesses. What do you plan on doing differently to make sure your business is a success.
  • What expenses will be incurred? You need to make a list of all of the things that you will need, supplies, products or anything else you will need to start. You will also need to include any daily expenses or staff costs.

A good way to find out what you need to include in your business plan is to search online for business plans. You can find examples that will give you ideas to make sure that you have set yours up right.

Go online and do a search on Google or Yahoo for “sample business plan” and you will get some good ideas. Be sure to spend a good amount of time on your business plan before you even try to get a loan.

Researching Your Idea and Developing It

Before you even consider starting a business you will want  to do some market research. Your idea may be original to you, however if you search it online you may find it already exists. In order to do a good search online try to think like your customers would think and ask the questions theywould ask. This should give you an idea of what already exists out there. By knowing what your competition is offering you can determine whether your product is comparative or better and how much competition you actually have.

You need to spend some time seeing if a product that is similar to yours is doing well. You want to determine how many other people are already offering it. A little competition is always good but too much would make it hard to get your product noticed. Try to find something that has a small enough market that it is not already flooded, but not so small that there aren’t enough potential customers.

You may be able to find a product similar to your idea is available from another country that you can have imported for a lower price than you can make it yourself. Be sure to check out all your options before deciding on what you will be offering.

Talk to as many people as you can about your idea and do a market research survey on the street. Find anything you can to try to figure how many potential customers you may have for your idea.

When you are running your own home business is best to start small. You don’t have a large advertising budget and are usually limited on the storage area to keep a huge amount of supplies.

What you want to find is a great market called a niche. A Niche can be anything that interests
people but is not a huge market.

Once you’ve figured out what you want to do then start to develop your idea. You need to get an idea of where you can get your products, supplies, customers and other things you need for your business. Take time to sit down and figure out what supplies you need and then find suppliers for all the products.

Do not just start your business without going through careful consideration of all aspects. Spend as much time as it takes to set up everything to the point where you have a better chance for success. See you next time.

Getting mentally prepared for your own business

Starting a home business is difficult. You need to determine whether or not you have the determination and self-discipline to work at it and make it work. You will want to ask yourself the following questions before you determine whether or not you are ready to start your own
business.

Will you stick with it? You must be positive that you want to start your own business and that you can stick with it even during tough times. You must be willing to accept that there will be many things that will fail that you will need to work on before you will be successful. Most businesses
fail within the first five years because they are not mentally or financially ready when they start.

Before you even start be sure that you can handle the setbacks.

Can you afford to lose money? It’s always a gamble to start your own business. You need to figure out what amount of money you can afford to lose before you even start. If your financial situation is not good than starting a new business is probably not a good idea at this time.

Can you handle the stress involved with having your own business? Having your own business means making many major decisions every day. If you feel you can’t handle the stress emotionally, physically or mentally you may want to reconsider. You need to have a strong desire to make a
successful business and the determination to see it through. You also need to be sure that you have some kind of support system to help make it through the tough times.

Do you love what you do? If you have an idea for a business and you have found that it is a feasible way to make an income that is a good start. One thing you want to be sure of though, is that you will enjoy doing it. If you start a business doing something you do not enjoy you are doomed to failure from the beginning.

Are you willing to work hard? When you first start a business it will not be a regular 9-to-5 job. You will need to work at it as many hours a day as it takes to get it going right.

You need to be able to work with other people. When you start a new business you cannot afford to lose any of your customers. You need to learn how to handle complaints and make sure your customers are well cared for.

If you are sure you can handle the above, and are ready to get started. Be sure to watch for the next issue and will have you going strong on your business in no time.
